Enzymes for starch ethanol production

First-generation ethanol production uses readily available sugar or starch crops. Starch-based routes need hydrolysis before yeast can ferment the released sugars. We tailor enzyme selection to the grain or tuber, processing temperature, solids loading and conversion strategy.

Liquefaction, saccharification and debranching

α-Amylase

Cleaves internal α-1,4 bonds in starch. Suitable liquefaction conditions help reduce mash viscosity and prepare dextrins for further conversion.

Glucoamylase

Releases glucose from starch-derived dextrins during saccharification. Select activity and conditions around the intended fermentation process.

Pullulanase

Targets α-1,6 branch points. A complementary debranching activity may improve access for saccharifying enzymes, depending on the substrate and process.

Corn, wheat, barley and cassava feedstocks

Corn and cassava trials typically focus on effective starch conversion. Wheat and barley can also benefit from considering xylanase or β-glucanase activities where non-starch polysaccharides contribute to viscosity. For molasses or sugar juice, check the sugar profile first: starch-hydrolysing enzymes may not be needed.

Design a useful 1G enzyme trial

Compare a candidate blend with your current process using the same feedstock batch, solids basis and fermentation conditions. Assess viscosity, residual starch, glucose release and fermentation performance. We offer free samples and free technical support to help agree a practical trial.

PROTEIN VALORISATION FOR ANIMAL FEED

Thermostable proteases, DDGS and grain protein.

Distillers dried grains with solubles (DDGS), wet distillers grains and separated protein fractions can contribute value alongside 1G ethanol. We offer thermostable proteases for trials targeting protein accessibility, solubility and digestibility. Agree the treatment point and grade-specific operating window before dosing; thermostability depends on the preparation and residence time.

Compare peptide release, soluble and retained nitrogen, protein recovery and the characteristics of the final dried or wet co-product. Improved hydrolysis alone is not proof of improved animal performance: use suitable digestibility measurements and evaluate the intended feed application. Retain a mass balance because solubilising protein can change where nitrogen ends up.
